Sessions will vary in content, from learning set routines to creating their own dances, and will include a variety of styles such as Movement Play, Street Dance, Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Cheerleading.
Creativity is a key aspect of this club, drawing from all aspects of inspiration and learning to use the body in different, unusual and new ways. The students are encouraged to get involved throughout the choreographic process through creative tasks to allow them to input their ideas into new dance routines. This gives them a great sense of achievement and ownership over a piece.

About the difference dance styles:
CHEERLEADING
Cheerleading is a gymnastic style of dance that involves dancing as a team and using Pom Poms. The main areas of cheerleading include arm movements, tumbling, jumps and stunts which incorporate lifts; overall increasing confidence, flexibility and strength.
Children will learn the basic cheer movements and basic stunts to put together in highly energetic routines.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance technique offers young people the chance to develop dance in their own way. Traditional techniques, such as Graham and Cunningham, are combined with expressive and free movements to create unique individual styles. The dancers are involved within the creative process of new dance pieces and input their skills and abilities to make it their own. At this age, Contemporary is useful for those interested in dance, drama and the choreographic processes involved, as well as complementing other dance disciplines, such as Ballet and Jazz. It is very popular with lots of the current day dance companies.
In this class you will improve your technical understanding and develop strength, coordination, stamina, flexibility and emotional expression.
JAZZ
The style of Jazz includes a broad range of movements and genres that occasionally require the use of the imagination in order to get into different characters and create different atmospheres. The class enhances the ability to perform in these different styles and characters by providing a vocabulary that increases physical strength and flexibility.
The vocabulary includes series of combination steps, turns, leaps and tricks that are then structured into routines based around different stimuli. For example, musicals such as Cats, Lion King and Fame.
STREET
Street dance involves learning specialist moves that include freezes, popping, jumps, floor work and intricate footwork, all of which are broken down and learnt in manageable sections before combined together to create routines.
The more advanced street dance incorporates the 4 break dance elements: Downrock, Uprock, Freezes and Power Moves to help form a more unique individual style.
We work on developing individual body style and fine tuning intricate movements as well as increasing the ability and awareness of working as a team.
