Contemporary Dance Classes
Contemporary dance is a style of dance that emerged in the 20th century as an outgrowth of modern dance and other 20th century dance techniques. Unlike traditions such as ballet, contemporary dance is not associated with specific dance techniques, but rather with a dance philosophy. In contemporary dance, people attempt to explore the natural energy and emotions of their bodies to produce dances which are often very personal.
Contemporary dance technique offers young people the chance to develop dance in their own way. Traditional techniques, such as Graham and Cunningham, are combined with expressive and free movements to create unique individual styles. The dancers are involved within the creative process of new dance pieces and input their skills and abilities to make it their own. At this age, Contemporary is useful for those interested in dance, drama and the choreographic processes involved, as well as complementing other dance disciplines, such as Ballet and Jazz. It is very popular with lots of the current day dance companies.
In this class you will improve your technical understanding and develop strength, coordination, stamina, flexibility and emotional expression.
